SN 8500

Performance-optimised illumination of large areas

Downlight for increased lighting requirements. For illuminating workplaces with particular hazards, swimming pools or sports facilities. Robust, chlorine-resistant housing made of die-cast aluminium with optional side cable gland.

  • Housing with high protection class

  • Robust design

  • Versatile application

Designed for demanding requirements

The robust powder-coated die-cast aluminium housing of the SN 8500 is ideally suited for industrial use. The high IP65 protection rating protects the luminaire against the ingress of water and dust.

In addition to the cable entries at the rear, the housing also offers the option of inserting cable glands into the side of the housing. To do this, two pre-stamped openings on each of three sides can be easily knocked out.

Optional accessories allow for flexible mounting of the luminaire. The SN 8500 can be suspended from chains, mounted on the wall with a lockable wall bracket or installed in the ceiling with a mounting frame.

Safety lighting for workplaces with particular hazards

Workplaces with particular hazards place high demands on safety lighting. In emergency situations, reliable and sufficiently bright lighting is crucial to minimise risks and ensure safe work processes. Due to the increased risk of accidents, EN 1838 requires a higher level of lighting for these areas.

Even in emergency mode, sufficient light must be available so that dangerous activities can be brought to a controlled end. The illuminance must be at least 10% of the required working lighting and must not fall below 15 lx at any point. This ensures that orientation and safety of action are guaranteed even in the event of a power failure.

Standard-compliant safety lighting for sports facilities

Sports facilities place special demands on safety lighting, as there is an increased risk to athletes and spectators in the event of an emergency. Reliable lighting is crucial to prevent panic and accidents. The EN 12193 standard therefore requires safety lighting that enables sporting activities to be brought to a safe conclusion. Depending on the type of sport, sufficient illuminance must be provided for a period of 30 to 120 seconds.

The required lighting values are also based on the level of competition and the use of the sports facility and are defined by various lighting classes in order to optimally ensure both sporting activities and safety.

Lighting requirements in swimming pools

Swimming pools have special lighting requirements due to their use and environment. In addition to uniform illumination, the focus is primarily on the safety of bathers and staff. In the event of a risk of accidents due to the failure of general lighting, DGUV 107-001 ‘Operation of swimming pools’ requires an illuminance of one per cent of the general lighting, but at least 15 lux, to be provided by safety lighting.

Standard-compliant emergency lighting thus ensures sufficient visibility and orientation even in the event of a power failure and makes a decisive contribution to minimising hazards and supporting safe processes at all times.
